Test Management
Test management is very important for all projects. Test management
occurs for all testing types and stages. Test management is
the practice of organizing and controlling the process and artifacts
required for the testing effort. The general goal of test management
is to allow teams to plan, develop, execute, and assess all
testing activities within the overall software development effort.
This includes coordinating efforts of all those involved in
the testing effort, tracking dependencies and relationships
among test assets and, most importantly, defining, measuring,
and tracking quality goals.
Manual Testing
Manual testing can be performed on either a standalone basis
or as a prelude to the development of an automated test suite.
Testing can address black box testing of installation, compatibility
(OSs, Browsers, etc.), functionality, and reliability, as well
as white box testing.
Automation Testing
Automation testing involves the use of commercially or internally
developed software or services to assist in the testing process.
They provide results that are consistent. There are benefits
to using an automation tool. They include repeatability, ease
of maintenance, the ability to efficiently use resources in
off-peak hours and the capability to create reports based on
the executed tests.
Performance Testing
Performance testing is a general term used to describe testing
activities where a simulated user load is directed at a system
and measurements are gathered. It is designed to meet or exceed
a set of system performance goals while maintaining a particular
user load profile. It places variable load - from a minimum
to a maximum - on the system. The variable load demonstrates
what the system can sustain without running out of resource
or having transactions perform in a less-than-optimal fashion.
